The Sun Descript

TermDefinition
Nuclear Fusion The process by which nuclei of small atoms combine to form a new, more massive nucleus;the process release energy
Sunspot A dark area of the photo sphere of the sun that is cooler than the surrounding areas and that has a strong magnetic field
Solar Flares An explosive release of energy that comes from the sun and that is associated with magnetic disturbances on the sun's surface.
Prominence A stream of incandescent gas projecting above the sun's chromosphere.
Corona The rarefied gaseous envelope of the sun and other stars.
Chromosphere A reddish gaseous layer immediately above the photosphere of the sun or another star. Together with the corona, it constitutes the star's outer atmosphere.
Photosphere The luminous envelope of a star from which its light and heat radiate.
Convection Zone The convection zone of a star is the range of radii in which energy is transported primarily by convection. In the radiation zone, energy is transported by radiation.
Radiative Zone The radiation zone or radiative zone is a layer of a star's interior where energy is primarily transported toward the exterior by means of radiative diffusion, rather than by convection.
Core The tough central part of various fruits, containing the seeds.
Radiation The emission of energy as electromagnetic waves or as moving subatomic particles, especially high-energy particles that cause ionization.
Convection the movement caused within a fluid by the tendency of hotter and therefore less dense material to rise, and colder, denser material to sink under the influence of gravity, which consequently results in transfer of heat.

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.
