Math Vocabulary

All of 7th grade math vocabulary

TermDefinition
Numerator The top part of a common fraction.
Denominator The bottom part of a common fraction.
Absolute Vaule How far a number is from zero.
Integers Positive or negative number,or Zero.
Opposites Two numbers that have the same magnitude, but are opposite in signs.
Ratio Shows the relative sizes of two or more values.
Rate A special ratio in which the two terms are different units.
Unit Rate A rate with a denominator of 1.
Unit Price Price per unit of measure
Reciprocal One of a pair of numbers that, when multiplied together equal 1.
Variable A symbol, that is describing any number.
Proportion An equation stating that two ratios are equal.
Equation A written statement indicating the equality of two expressions.
Sale Tax The tax on goods or service purchases.
Commission The earnings based on a percent of the total amount of sales.
Percent The number of parts out of 100 of something.
Principal Principal is the amount of money borrowed or invested.
Balance When both sides have the same quantity or mass.
Simple Interest Simple interest is interest paid only on the original principal, not on the interest accrued.
Compound Interest When the interest rate is applied to the original principal and any accumulated interest, this is called compound interest.
Algebraic Expression An algebraic expression is a mathematical phrase that can contain ordinary numbers, variables and operators.
Distributive Property An algebra property which is used to multiply a single term and two or more terms inside a set of parentheses.
Monomial A polynomial with only one term.
Polynomial An expression consisting of the sum of two or more terms
Coefficient A number or quantity placed before multiplying another quantity.
