TermDefinition
nuclear fusion the process by which nuclei of small atoms combine from a new, more massive nucleus; the process release energy.
sunspot a dark area of the photosphere of the sun that is cooler than the surrounding areas and that has a strong magnetic field.
solar flare an explosive release of energy that comes from the sun and that is associated with magnetic disturbances on the sun's surface.
prominence a loop of relativity cool, incandescent gas that extends above the photosphere and above the suns edge as seen from earth.
core the central part of earth below mantle.
radiative zone is the layer of the sun through energy is transferred away from the core by radiation .
convection zone is the layer of the sun through which energy travels by convection from the radiative zone to the photosphere.
photosphere is the visible surface of the sun. it is the layer from which energy escape into space.
chromosphere is the middle layer of the sun's atmosphere.
corona is the outer atmosphere of the sun.
