QuestionAnswer
It is the policy of the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office (JSO) to allow officers to use only that degree of force which is reasonable and necessary to affect an arrest or to protect themselves or others from personal attack, physical resistance, harm, or death
The decision to use force at any level must be based upon state and federal laws and the circumstances that the officers reasonably believed to exist at that time
All personnel shall be issued a copy of and instructed in the RTR policies before being authorized to carry any issued weapons or placed in a position where force may be used
Officers and supervisors will be required to obtain medical evaluations from the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department (JFRD), nurse at the Pretrial Detention Facility (PDF),
as soon as possible or practical, for individuals Who show signs of any injury as a result of any use of force being applied
Who complain about any injury as a result of force being applied
Who become unconscious either during or following the application of any force
When the officer or supervisor reasonably believes an individual is in need of a medical evaluation as a result of the application of force
