what is a colloid? A colloid is a mixture in which the particles are dispersed throughout but are not heavy enough to settle out.
what is the difference between homogeneous and heterogeneous mixtures? Homogeneous mixtures has the same uniform appearance throughout while heterogeneous mixtures are made of different substances that remain physically separate.
Is pizza a heterogeneous or homogeneous mixture? Pizza is heterogeneous because the parts of the pizza stay physically separate.
What is a mixture? A mixture is a combination of two or more substances that are not chemically combined.
What is a solution? A solution is a mixture that appears to be a single substance. A solution is composed of particles of two or more substances that are distributed evenly among each other.
What is a solute? The solute is the substance that is dissolved.
What is a solvent? The solvent is the substance in which the solute is dissolved.
Are mixtures physically or chemically combined? Mixtures are physically combined, and compounds are chemically combined.
What are mixtures made of? Mixtures are made of compounds elements or both.
Is salt water a homogeneous or heterogeneous mixture? Why? Salt water is a homogeneous mixture because the sodium chloride particles dissolved giving off the appearance of a single product.
What is a suspension A suspension is a heterogeneous mixture in which solute-like particles settle out of a solvent-like phase some time after their introduction.
Do mixtures have a specific ratio of components? Mixtures are formed using any ratio of components.
What are compounds made of? Compounds are made up of elements.
What type of mixture is a snow globe? A snow globe is a suspension mixture because when you shake it the snow is everywhere and over time it settles down.
If you have pieces of metal mixed in with sand, how can you separate them? You can use a magnet to separate the metal and the sand.
