| Figurative language | Imaginative language that is not meant to be interpreted literally. |
| alliteration | the repetition of consonant sounds at the beginnings of words that are close together. |
| static character | remains the same. |
| dynamic character | changes from the beginning to the end. |
| protagonist | the main character. |
| antagonist | an opponent or is against another. |
| symbolism | is the use of symbols in a literary work. |
| consequence | the effect, result, or outcome of something occurring earlier. |
| myth | a traditional story that explains the actions of gods or heros or the origins of the elements of nature. |
| theme | the central idea, message, or purpose of a literary work. |
