Therapeutic Hypothermai

What are indications for therapeutic hypothermia? CVA, ROSC, 18 years and older, mechanically ventialted, initiated within 6 hours of arrest, and unresponsive.
What are contraindicatations for therapeutic hypothermia? Less than 18 years old, terminal illness, platelet count < 50000, pregnancy, and dysrhythmias.
What are the three phases of therapeutic hypothermia? induction/cooling, maintenantce, and rewarming.
What is the goal temperature during the cooling phase? 33-35 degrees celcius.
How long does the cooling phase last? 12-24 hours.
When does the rewarming phase start? 24 hours after the cooling phase was initiated.
At what rate do you increase the patients temperature? 0.3 degrees C every hour.
What is the goal temperature for rewarming? 36 degrees C.
