Photosynthesis | The process by which green plants make their own food from CARBON DIOXIDE and water using energy captured from sunlight |
Respiration | The processes that take place in the cells and tissues during which energy is released and carbon dioxide is produced |
Stem | The stalk that supports a leaf flower or fruit |
Root | A part of the body of a plant that develops typically from the radicle and grows downward into the soil anchoring the plant and absorbing nutrients and moisture |
Tap root | A main root descending downward from the radicle and giving off small lateral roots |
Pistil | The ovule bearing or seed bearing female organ of a fruit consisting of ovary style and stigma |
Ovule | The plant part that contains the embryo sac and the female germ cell which develops into a seed |

Epicotyl | The part of a plant embryo that connects with the leaf |
Leaf | One of the expanded usually green organs on the stem |
Germinate | To begin to grow or develop starting from a seed |
Chlorophyll | The green coloring matter of leaves and plants essential to the production of carbohydrates by photosynthesis |
Stomata | Small slits or opening in the top layer of leaves stems etc through which gases are exchanged |
