vocabulary for online behaviors

TermDefinition
Grooming The techniques used by child predators to try to gain a minor's trust online.
Digital Footprint Online information that exists about a person that has been posted on purpose or accidentally by themselves or others.
Listserve An online list that allows users to send email to one address.
Upstander Someone who takes action to stop inappropriate behaviors or bullying.
Fair Use Ability to use copyright material by quoting it without permission from or payment to the original source, as long as citation is clearly given and the material quoted is reasonably brief.
Jeopardize To put something at risk or in danger, such as your reputation or digital footprint.
Malicious The primary intention to cause harm to someone or something.
Open Source Program Code that has limited or no copyright restrictions and allows you to legally modify and share it.
PSA Public Service Announcement: a short 30-90 second video that is made to educate or inform the public about important health or safety issues.
Spyware Software that gets on your computer without your knowledge and steals private information.
