when adding y to a word ending in the e you: | Drop the e before adding the y eg. noise + y = noisy |
When a words end in an e, the e is usually kept when: | A suffix beginning with a consonant is added eg. noise + less = noiseless |
When a word ends in an e the e is usually dropped: | A suffix beginning with a vowel is added eg. love + able = Loveable |
the prefixes dis- and -mis never: | drop their s even when added to a word beginning with s eg. dis + ability = disability dis + satisfied= dissatisfied |
