Behavior | An action taken in an environemnt; the way an organism acts to survive within an environemnt |
Flat Teeth | A way to identify an animal that eats only plants (herbivores) |
Genes | Sets of instructions inside a cell that determine physical traits of an organism (what it looks like, etc) |
Generations | All of the offspring that are from a common ancestor; example: a mother and daughters represent two generations. |
Genetics | The study of heredity and variation in organisms |
Heredity | The passing on of qualities (such as appearance or intelligence) from parents to children |
Inherited Trait | Features (both structural and behavioral) that are passed from parent to offsring through genes ; example: eye color, knowing how to breathe, height |
Instinct | A behavioral trait that is inherited from parent to offspring; instincts are not taught ; example: pulling hand away from a hot object |
Learned/Acquired Behavior | Actions that are learned as an organism interacts with the environment ; example: walking, talking, hunting |
Sharp Teeth | A way to identify a meat-eating animal (carnivores) |
