Term | Definition |

absolute value | the difference a number is away from zero on a number line |
additive inverse | the opposite of an integer, the sum of an integer and its additive inverse is zero |
coordinate grid | a plane in which a horizontal number one and a vertical number line intersect at their zero points |
graph | the process of placing a point on a number line at its proper location |
integer | the whole numbers and their opposites |
negative integer | an integer less than zero |
opposites | represented by points that are the same distance from zero but on opposite sides |
ordered pair | a pair of numbers used to locate a point in the coordinate plane |
origin | the point at which the x-axis and the y-axis intersect on a coordinate plane |
positive integer | an integer greater than zero |
quadrant | one of the four regions into which the two perpendicular lines of the coordinate plane separate the plane |
x-axis | the horizontal number line on the coordinate plane |
x-coordinate | the first number of an ordered pair which corresponds to a number on the x-axis |
y-axis | the vertical number line in a coordinate plane |
y-coordinate | the second number of an ordered pair which corresponds to a number on the y-axis |
