Can a phlebotomist draw from a leg vein? | No never even with doctors orders |
Can a phlebotomist draw from the foot? | Yes with doctor's order. |
Where is the Median Cubital vein? | In the center of the arm where it bends |
Where is the Cephalic vein? | On the top of the arm same side as the thumb. |
Where is the Basilic vein? | On the same side as your pinky finger. |
Where is the Median antibrachial vein? | on the inside/middle part of your arm half way between your elbow and wrist |
If you can do a foot draw without a tourniquet should you? | Yes |
Only use what kind of needle in a foot draw? | Butterfly |
After venipuncture in foot apply pressuree to site for one minute or until bleeding subsides. Apply gauze to foot without restricting what? | Blood flow. |
Where should you place the tourniquet on the arm and should you place the tourniquet on clothing to prevent what? | 3 inches above the site and yes so you do not pinch the skin. |
After placing tourniquet on patient ask the patient to what? | close had into a fist, but no not pump |
What happens when you leave a tourniquet on a patient for too long? | it causes concentration of the blood in the vein and it may affect the test results. |
What is it called when you feel for veins? | Palpate |
Cleanse and disinfect the selected site with the alcohol pad by? | concentric circular motion starting at the center of the site outward. |
Allow site to air dry and avoid palpating area where the needle is entering the vein. | True |

When do you cancel a draw? | Pt is not available or you are asked to postpone the draw..notify the nurse |
