Ch 23: Anti-Angiotensins

anti angiotensins include what class of drugs? ACE-I, ARBs, aldosterone antagonists
what diseases do anti angiotensins treat? CHF, hypertension
MOA of ACE inhibitors? prevent conversion of Angiotensin I to Angiotensin II
do ARBs cause cough? why or why not? no, because it only blocks the receptor, so no increase in bradykinin, so no cough. blood pressure reduction tends to not be as significant.
this is an aldosterone antagonist, blocking the effects of aldosterone. accordingly, it prevents aldosterone mediated effects, preventing the aldosterone mediate uptake of sodium and water. spironolactone
what type of diuretic is spironolactone? potassium sparing diuretic. it blocks the aldosterone receptor
adverse effects of spironolactone? hyperkalemia, metabolic acidosis, hormone related sid eeffects (menstrual irregularities and gynecomastia). the latter effect is because of structural similarity to sex hormones.
