TermDefinition
mulitcellular an organism made up of more than one, often different (types of) cells. Ex. flowers, birds, and humans
taxonomy the branch of science that formally names and classifies organisms by their structure, function, and relationships.
unicellular an organism made up of one cell. Ex. Bacteria and Euglena
structure the arrangements of parts to form a living thing. Ex. veins in leaves or a bone
prokaryotic a cell lacking a nucleus or any other membrane-enclosed organelles.
eukaryotic a cell containing a membrane-enclosed nucleus and organelles.
organelle structures found in all eukaryotic cells and in some prokaryotic cells that perform a specific funtion. Means "little organs". Ex. nucleus, mitochandria, or endoplasmic reticulum
asexual a method of reproduction that requires only one parent. Ex. mushrooms - organisms with spores, potatoes - some non flowering plants, & coral.
reproduction the process of an organism producing more of its own kind. Two types sexual & asexual
autotrophic an organism that is able to make its own food. Ex. tress and roses
sexual a method of reproduction that requires both a male and female. (2 Parents) Ex. humans and flowering plants.
heterotrophic an organism that cannot make its own food. Ex. insects and people
