what is benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH)? enlargement of prostate in transistional zones
how often is prosate CA found in TZ? 20% of the time
what is stage one of prostate CA? tumor is microscopic and confined to prostate but is undetectable by a digital rectal exam (DRE) or by US usually discovered by PSA tests or biopsies
what is the scrotum divided by? medium raphe which is an external division
what type of glands are the testicles? both endocrine (hormones) and exocrine (germ cells)
what are the testicular layers? tunica albuginea and tunica vaginalis
what are the seminiferous tubules? where sperm is produced, the further away from the tete testis the less mature they are
what do rete teste do? transports sperm from somniferous tubules to efferent ducts
what is the vas deferens? tube that connects epidiymis to seminal vesicle
where is the seminal vesicle located in relation to bladder? posterior
where is sperm stored prior to ejaculation? seminal vesicle
what does the pampiniform plexus wrap around? arteries
what is microlithiasis? multiple, small calcifications within seminiferous tubules
what is spermatocele? retention cyst of sperm in epididymis
what is orchitis? epididymal infection spreads to testis
what is the most common cause of scrotal swelling? hydrocele
