Tehran Conference

Cold War

When was the Tehran conference? 1943.
What was US president Roosevelt keen for the Big Three to do? Meet up and 'cement' their wartime alliance against Hitler. Consolidate their 'friendship.'
Once at the conference, what did Stalin push the allies to do? Open a Second Front in France.
What would this be for? To take pressure off the USSR.
What were Churchill & Roosevelt's reactions? Churchill was reluctant but Roosevelt promised to an invasion in May 1944.
When was this invasion later postponed to? 6th June 1944.
What did Stalin also do? At the Tehran conference, other than suggesting to open up a Second Front, Stalin made big claims on Poland & Germany. However, details on these were to be left to sort out later.
What was the USSR kind of and why? Horrible as 95% of German deaths had been caused by the USSR!
Why was there tension at Tehran? Because Stalin was angry with Churchill. (ask someone why)
Also, during this conference, what did the USSR ultimately think the USA was trying to do? Take over Western Europe.
