Cell The basic unit of structure and function in living things
Cell Membrane the outside cell boundary that controls whic which substances can enter or leave cell
Nucleus The control center of a eukaryotic cell that directs the cell's activiites and contains the info that determines the cell's form and function
Cytoplasm The material within a cell apart from the nucleus
Tissue A group of similar cells that perfrom the same function
Muscle Tissue A body tissue that contracts or shortens, making body parts move
Nervous Tissue A body tissue that carries electrical messages back and forth between brian and every other body part
Connective Tissue A body tissue that provides support for the body and connects all of its parts
Epithelial Tissue A body tissue that covers the surface of the body inside and out
Organ A structure in the body that is composed of different kinds of tissue
Organ System A group of organs that work together to preform a major function in the body
Homeostasis The maintenance of stable internal conditions in an organism
Stress The reaction of a person'd body to potentially threatening challenging, or disturbing events
Skeleton The inner framework made of all the bones of the body
Vertebrae The small bones that make up the back bone
Joint A place in the body where 2 bones come together
Ligament Strong connective tissue that holds bones together in a movable joints
Cartilage A connective tissue that is more flexible than bone and that protects the ends of bones and keep them from rubbing together
Compact Bone Hard, dense bone tissue that is beneath the outer membrane of a bone
Spongy Bone Layer of bone tissue having many small spaces and found just inside the layer of compact bone
Marrow The soft connective tissue that fills the internal spaces in bone
Osteoporosis A condition in which the body's bones become weak and break easily
