Text Features

Features found in books and texts

TermDefinition
Bullets A dot or symbol to set apart a list.
Diagram A drawing or picture where lines point to different parts of something.
Illustration A drawn or painted image.
Timeline A visual representation of events in someone's life or a period in history.
Photograph An image taken by a camera.
Text The body of a printed work.
Caption A title or short explanation next to a picture.
Heading The topic at the top of a paragraph, page or chapter.
Subheading A subordinate or lower heading or title.
Bold text A word in a darker and sometimes larger font to emphasize the word.
Map A symbolic representation of an area such as a town, country or continent.
Glossary An alphabetical list of terms defined which typically appear at the end of the text or book.
Index An alphabetical listing of subjects and page numbers where they can be found in the text or book.
Table of Contents A chronological listing of sections or chapters of a text or book usually found at the beginning of a book.
Table Numbers or data displayed in rows and columns.
