Physics 1 RemCh2

review of chapter 2 vocab

QuestionAnswer
speed measure of how fast something is moving
instantaneous speed how fast something is moving at any given moment
average speed the distance covered divided by the time it took to cover it.
velocity speed in a given direction
What is the average speed of a snail that travels 2 meters in 4 hours? 0.5 m/h
What is the velocity of a mountain goat that travels 200 m north in 10minutes? 20 m/minute north (remember velocities need a direction)
acceleration the rate at which velocity changes
A gerbil that starts at rest and accelerates to a velocity of 1 m/s right. It takes it 10 seconds to reach this velocity. What is its acceleration? 0.1 m/s2
A rhino is traveling at a speed of 5 m/s. It travels for 10 seconds. How far does the rhino go? 50m
A wildebeest is traveling at a velocity of 2 m/s south. It travels 200 meters. How long does it take the wildebeest to cover the distance? 100 s South
A pumpkin starts at rest and is rolled down a ramp with an acceleration of 3 m/s2 down. If it accelerates for 2 seconds, how fast is it going? 6 m/s down the ramp
free fall motion under the influence of gravity only
air resistance force that slows the acceleration of falling objects
An unconscious turtle is dropped from the top of the high diving board. It takes 1.2 seconds to hit the water below. How fast was it moving when it hit 11.77 m/s
An unconscious turtle is dropped from the top of the high diving board. It takes 1.2 seconds to hit the water below. How far did it fall? 7.06 m
Does air resistance increase or decrease the acceleration of a falling object? decrease
How far will an object move in 1 second if its average speed is 4 m/s? 4 m
Sue Subaru travels in her car in a straight line at a constant speed of 30 miles per hour. What is Sue's acceleration? a = 0 since she is not turning nor changing speed
A dragster traveling at 10 m/s north increases its velocity to 25 m/s north in 3 seconds. What is its acceleration during this time period? 5 m/s2 north

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.
