What was the word 'Baroque' often used to describe? Something that was ornate and extravagant.
Baroque music is often very (3 points): Decorative, with ornamented melody lines & complex counterpoint.
4 key features of music during this period (good luck) [some of these may have been repeated]: 1. Simple, mainly diatonic harmonies. 2. Movements that usually kept to the same mood throughout. 3. Terraced dynamics - changes in volume are SUDDEN rather than gradual. 4. Ornamentation - melodies are often highly decorated.
2 more key features of music during this period (good luck) [some of these may have been repeated]: 5. Complex contrapuntal writing in some pieces. 6. Orchestras made up largely of string instruments.

Usually consists of a keyboard instrument (harpsichord/organ) with one or more bass instrument (e.g. cello or double bass).
Four important composers during the Baroque period? Vivaldi, Bach, Handel & Purcell.
When was Handel born? 1685, in the same year as Bach.
What 3 countries did Handel live in? He grew up in Germany, spent time in Italy and later settled in London.
What was Handels first set work? The Messiah.
