atmosphere

TermDefinition
Rules of Weather Warm air rises. Cold air sinks.
What causes wind? *the differnece in air temperature *wind moving from region of high pressure to low pressure
What causes air pressure? The weight of the air itself.
4 Conditions that make up the weather. 1.Air temperature 2.Air pressure 3.Wind 4.Water
Global Warming The production of excess carbon dioxide which causes the depletion of the ozone layer. When this happens more ultraviolet light reaches the Earth's surface causing the atmosphere and waters to increase in temperature. Effects: Melting of glaciers, floodi
Carbon Dioxide Cycle Plants give off O2 that people need, and people give off carbon dioxide that plants need
The Water Cycle evaporation/water vapor/condensation/precipitation (rain, sleet, snow or hail)
The Composition of the Atmosphere Oxygen 21% Nitrogen 78% Othere gases 1%
Exosphere The 5th layer of the atmosphere were space begins.
Mesophere The 3rd layer of the atmosphere were meteors burn.
Air Mass A large body or air that has about the same temperature and moisture throughout
Front The boundary or area of contact between two air masses.
Three Types of Fronts 1. Cold front 2. Warm front 3. Stationary front
Four Types of Air Masses 1. Dry Polar 2. Moist Polar 3. Dry Tropical 4. Moist Tropical
Stratosphere The 2nd layer of atmosphere where the ozone layer and the jet streams are located.
Troposphere The 1st layer of the atmosphere which is closest to the Earth's surface.
Relative Humidity The amount of water vapor in the air caompared with the total amount that the air can hold at that temperature
Thermosphere the 4th layer of atmosphere where TV and radio signals occur from satelites

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.
