purpose for bodian stain nerve fibers
principle for bodian "protargol" (silver) impregnates tissue, copper (added to progargol) destains conn. tissue, hydroquinone/formalin reduce, gold toned, oxalic acid to reduce gold/intensify stain, sodium thio. remove unreduced silver, aniline blue counterstains
what further help does the copper added to the protargol do? destains connective tissue which will further diff'r between neural and connective tissues
why was formalin added to the hydroquinone silver reducer luna found it to give more consistent results than soduim sulfite.

why must chem. cleaned glassware be used a black precipitate will form during stains with impegnation techniques
qc peripheral nerve or cerbral cortex. spinal cord is NOT GOOD because most nerve fibers will appear in cross section.
besides chem clean glassware what type of forceps should be used non metallic
tech 6-8 microns
results nerve - black, background - lt gray or blue, nuclei - black
what is aqua regia used for cleans the copper shot that is added to the progargol impregnation solution
how is aqua regia disposed of poured into LARGE volume of water and then discarded in the sink (under fume hood)
notes protargol must be left undisturbed until dissolved, do not over counterstain with aniline blue or contrast will be lost
if it is difficult to differentiate between blue and black (microscopally) what can be used instead nuclear fast red
