The United Sates Constitution Vocabulary

Federalism the sharing of power between federal and state governments
Republicanism favoring a republic, or representative democracy, as the best form of government
Electoral College a special group of voters to vote for president and vice president
Preamble the introduction to a formal document, especially the Constitution
Amend to alter, improve
Enumerated Powers powers belonging on to the federal government
Reserved Powers powers retained by the states
Concurrent Powers powers shared by the states and the federal government
Implied Powers powers not specially mentioned in the constitution
Legislative Branch the branch of government that makes the nations laws
Executive Branch the branch of government headed by the president, that carries out the nations laws and policies
Judicial Branch the branch of government, including federal court system, that interprets the nations laws
Impeachment the bring of charge against an official
Enumeration a census or population count
President Pro Tempore the presiding officer of Senate who serves when the vice president is absent
Bill draft of proposed laws
Treason violation of the allegiance owned by a person to his or her own county
Ratification official approval
