Blood and Lymphatic System

Hemolysis destruction of red blood cells
Hemorrhage excessive bleeding; bursting forth of blood
Hyperlipemia a condition of excessive amounts of blood
Immunoglobulin a blood protein capable of acting as an antibody. The five major types: IgA, IgD, IgE, IgG, and IgM
Leukemia a disease of the blood characterized by overproduction of leukocytes
Leukocyte a white blood cell
lymphadenitis inflammation of the lymph glands
Plasma the fluid part of the blood
Plasmapheresis removal of blood from the body and centrifuging it to separate the plasma from the blood
Serology the study of serum
Serum the clear, yellowish fluid that separates from the clot when blood clots
Transfusion the process whereby blood is transferred from one individual to the vein
Thrombocyte a clotting cell; a blood platelet
Thrombosis condition of a blood clot
Blood fluid that circulates through the heart, arteries, veins, and capillaries
Fibrinogen a blood protein converted to fibrin by the action of thrombin in the blood clotting process
Lymph a clear, colorless, alkaline fluid found in the lymphatic vessels
Four major plasmas albumin, globulin, fibrinogen and prothrombin
Lymphocytes found in the lymph nodes
