Grocery Store Vocabulary
Term | Definition |

Deli | Where you buy sandwich meats and cheeses |
Bakery | Where you buy breads, pastries, and desserts |
Produce | Fresh fruits and vegetables, or the section of the store you go to buy fresh fruits and vegetables. |
Dairy | Products made with milk, or the section of the store you go to buy milk or milk-based products such as cheese and butter. |
Express lane | The lane you guy to pay for your items when you have only a few things (usually 10 or less). |
Cashier | The person you pay when you are done shopping. |
Aisle | The name of a row of products in a store. |
Coupon | This is a small piece of paper, usually cut out of a newspaper, which you give to the cashier when you pay for what you buy. The coupon gives you a discount on an item you buy. |
Shopping cart | This is a wagon like cart that is made of metal bars and can be pushed by its handle. Anything you buy in the store is put in these while you shop. |
Groceries | The items you buy at the supermarket are called “groceries”. If I go to the supermarket and buy some apples, laundry detergent and napkins these are the groceries I bought. |
