Chapter 5 - The Celebration of Baptism

**catechumenate a period of formation for Christian initiation that includes prayer and liturgy, religious instruction and service to others. Cathecumen - someone undergoing preparation.

Sunday the ideal day to celebrate Baptism, the Lord's day. Highlights the fact that we rise to new life like Jesus did
Celebrant bishop, priest or deacon who celebrates the sacrament of Baptism for and with the community
**Baptism "entrance" sacrament in which the parents present the child to the Church. The celebrant traces the sign of the cross on the child as a sign of new life and says "I baptize you in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.
**Original Sin During Baptism, the celebrant asks God to free the child from Original Sin. Then the child is anointed with oil on the chest.
Water an important sign/symbol in baptism. The celebrant pours water over the head of the child or the child is immersed in water three times.
Sacred Chrism perfumed oil blessed by the bishop. A sign of the Gift of the Holy Spirit
White Garment placed on the newly baptized as a symbol of the child's new life in Christ
Candle given to child's parents lit from the Easter Candle
