Periodic Table | An Arrangement of elements in columns, based on a set of properties that repeat from row to row |
Period | The rows in the Periodic table of elements |
Group | The Columns on the periodic table of elements |
Periodic Law | The pattern of repeating properties |
Atomic Mass Unit | One twelfth the mass of a carbon-12 atom |
Metals | Elements that are good conductors of electric and heat |
Transition Metals | Elements that form a bridge between the elements on the left and right sides of the periodic table |
Nonmetals | elements that are poor conductors of heat and electricity |
Metalloids | Elements with properties that fall between that of metals and nonmetals |
Valence Electron | An electron that is in the highest occupied energy level of an atom |
Alkali Metals | The first group of elements on the periodic table and have 1 valence electron |
Alkaline Earth Metals | The second group of elements on the periodic table and have 2 valence electrons |
Halogens | Group 7 on the periodic table and have 7 valence electrons |
Noble Gases | Group 8 on the periodic table and have 8 valence electrons |
