Vocabulary wordDefinition
accelerate to increase speed or change direction
acceleration the change of speed over time
average speed how fast something moves over a certain distance
conceptual model a written description or diagram based on ideas and observations that are used to describe how a process or object works Sir Isaac Newton's law of universl gravitation ishis vriable is plotted on the x-a a conceptual model
deceleration negative acceleration; occurs when change in speed, or accelertion is in the negative direction
dependent variable the varible in an experiment that changes in response to choices made by the experienter; this variable is plotted on the y-axis of a graph
free fall the acceleration of a falling object under the influence of the Earth's gravitational force
graphical model a model that shows the relationship between two variables on a graph so that the relationship is easily seen and understood
gravity the attractive force that exists between any two objects that have mass
independent variable the variable in an experiment that is manipulated by the experimenter and that causes changes in the dependent variable in the experiment; this variable is plotted on the x-axis of a graph
instantaneous speed the speed of an object at a specfic point in its journey
physical models models that are made of materials and that can be touched and measured; engineers construct scale physical models to test a structure before building it.

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.

To see how well you know the information, try the Quiz or Test activity.
