Onomatopoeia THe use of words that imitate sounds EX: buzz, hiss
Alliteration the repition of initial consonant sounds
Rhyme Scheme a regular pattern of Rhyming words in a poem
Personification a nonhuman subject is given human characteristics
Narrative Poem a story told in verse, have all elements of a short story (characters, plot, setting,conflict)
Lyric poem a highly musical verse that express the feelings and observations of a single speaker
Free verse Poetry not written in a regular, rhythmatical pattern
Symbol an object that stands for something other than itself
Metaphor describes something bu pointing out a similarity between two unlike things
Simile Just like metaphor except uses like or as
Extended Metaphor Several connected comparisons are made between two unlike things
