| 1872-4 | Great buffalo slaughter. Approx 9 mill buffalo were killed, white guys kill what gets in there way- buffalo. |
| 1873 | Andrew Carnegie- steel. Controlled steel mines, and metal. |
| 1876 | Alexander Gram Belle- Telephone. First phone call – NY to Boston. Central park established- place of relief (urban planning). |

| 1914 | Dawn of Modernism. WWI starts when the Black Hand, assassinates archduke Fraz Ferdinand, heir to the Austrian-Hungarian throne to prevent the union of Serbian states. |
| 1918 | WWI ends and the League of Nations is created to prevent future wars and protect the people. It initially fails. |
| 1920 | 18th amendment: (prohibition) Alcohol is outlawed. - 19th amendment: women’s voting rights |
| 1924 | National Origins Act limits the max number of Asian immigrants to 2% of the stats from 1890 |
| 1925 | The Scopes Trial – Teacher in TN teaches his class about evolution, ends up losing court case bc considered “hearsay” |

| 1930 | Dust ball. Breadbasket of America-> decade drought. Thousands of families migrate to cali. Huge growth in vehicles (especially farm equipment) |
| 1932 | FDA-federal deposit insurance corp. Gov insured money as an effort to bring back the banks and have the people build up trust and use them. 2,000 veterans die on a march when Hoover called “The general” and kill them. |
| 1933 | New president- Roosevelt (people realized Hoover = joke) “New Deal” – social security, FDIC, end to prohibition, government projects. |
| 1934 | SEC – securities exchange commission -> stocks. Make sure no crashes. |

| 1941 | December 7 – Japan attacks pearl harbor..2400 soldiers die-> enter WW2 |

| 1945 | U.S. drops atomic bomb on 2 Japanese cities -> Hiroshima (where they make weapons of war) and Nagasaki = Japan surrenders=WWII ends. League of Nations to prevent more world wars. Catcher and the Rye. |
