ClassificationDescription
Adrenergic Mimics activity of dopamine sympathetic nervous system; treatment of shock, cardiac arrest.
Adrenergic Blocker Lowers Blood pressure by stimulating alpha-adrenergic receptors in the CNS, causing vasodilation.
Angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors Lowers the blood pressure by blocking the conversion of angiotension I to angiotension II.
Anticholinergic Completely inhibit the activity (cholinergic blocker) of acetylcholine.
Anticoagulant Prevent the formation & extension of a thrombus; interfere w/ clotting mechanism.
Anticonvulsant Decrease or eliminate the occurrence of seizures.
Antidepressant Used in the treatment of various forms of endogenous depression.
Antihistamine Block the effects of histamine at the H1 receptor; relieves symptoms of an allergic reaction.
Antiplatelet Used to treat and/or prevent stroke & myocardial infarction; inhibits platelet aggregation.
Beta Blocker Block the effects of the sympathetic nervous system; management of hypertension, angina, CHF (Congestive Heart Failure), glaucoma.
Bone Resorption Inhibitior Treat & prevent osteoporosis
Bronchodilator Relaces bronchial muscles & dilates the bronchi
Calcium Channel Blocker Block calcium entry into vascular smooth muscle & myocardium; dilate coronary arteries; treatment of HTN (hypertension)
Choliniergic Mimic the activity of the parasympathetic nervous system.
Corticosteroid Modify the normal immune modify the normal immune inflammation response & suppress.
Diuretic Increases the secretion of urine by the kidneys; treatment of HTN (hypertension), edema associated w/ CHF (Congestive Heart Failure).
Hormone Chemical substance produced by glands & secreted into bloodstream, regulating bloodstream, regulating activity of certain body organs.
Nonsteroidal Antiinflammatory Drug (NSAID) Used to treat inflammatory conditions.
Sedative/Hypnoitc Used to treat various anxiety states & to provide sedation before procedures; used to treat insomnia.
Skeletal Muscle Relaxant Used to treat spasticity associated w/ spinal cored disease or relief of acute painful musculoskeletal conditions.
