AGGLOMERATION In the study of human settlements, an agglomeration is an extended city or town area comprising the built-up area of a central place and any suburbs linked by continuous urban area.
BARRIADA A shanty town or slum in any of several Peruvian cities.
BID-RENT THEORY Bid rent theory is a geographical economic theory that refers to how the price and demand on real estate changes as the distance towards the CBD increases.
BLOCKBUSTING First an agent or developer persuades white people to sell their houses at low prices by telling them that black people are moving into their neighborhood, exploiting their racism and fear of lowered property values.
CBD (CENTRAL BUSINESS DISTRICT) A central business district (CBD) is the commercial and often geographic heart of a city.
CENSUS TRACT Census tract, census area, or census district is a particular community defined for the purpose of taking a census.
CENTRALITY Within graph theory and network analysis, there are various measures of the centrality of a vertex within a graph that determine the relative importance of a vertex within the graph (for example, how important a person is within a social network.)
CENTRALIZATION Centralization (or centralisation) is the process by which the activities of an organization, particularly those regarding decision-making, become concentrated within a particular location and/or group.
CENTRAL-PLACE THEORY Central place theory is a geographical theory that seeks to explain the size and spacing of human settlements.
CHRISTALLER, WALTER Walter Christaller (1893 – 1969), was a German geographer whose principal contribution to the discipline is Central Place Theory [1], first published in 1933.
CITY City is primarily used to designate an urban settlement with a large population. However, city may also indicate a special administrative, legal, or historical status.
