global winds a wind that blows steadily in a predictable direction over long distances
insolation the amount of the sun's energy that reaches Earth
tornado a rotating funnel shaped cloud with winds up to 500 km/hr
weather the condition of the troposphere at a particular place and time.
weather map a map that shows the weather in a specific area at a specific time.
thermosphere The fourth layer of the Earth's atmosphere.
stratosphere The layer of the Earth's atmosphere immediately above the troposphere
troposphere The layer of gases closest to the Earth's surface in the atmosphere. (5-11 miles thick)
humidity the amount of water vapor in the air
front the boundary between two air masses
Gulf Stream Moves along the east coast of the United States
hurricane a very large, swirling storm with very low pressure at the center, and wind speeds greater than 119 km/hr
cyclone any storm with low pressure center that causes a circular pattern of winds to form
weather with low pressure system Warm and stormy weather
weather with high pressure system Dry clear weather
tropical storm to hurricane When the wind speed reaches 119 km/h (74 mph)
Exosphere The layer of the Earth's atmosphere furthest away from the Earth's surface. The last layer.
