What are the two types of planets in our solar system? | Small, rocky high density planet all inside the asteroid belt, and large, gaseous, low density planets outside the asteroid belt. |
What is an asteroid? | Pieces of a broken planet that are found in the Asteroid belt. |
What is the order of the planets? | Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune. |
How are inner planets similar? | They are similar in composition. |
How do periods of rotation vary? | They vary from short, 24 hours (Mars and Earth), to long, 56 days (Mercury) and 236 days (Venus). |
What are comets? Which way do their tails point? | Comets orbit the sun and are made up of frozen gas. A comets tail points away from the sun because of solar wind. |
What are Meteoroids? | Leftover pieces of a come's tail floating in space. |
What is a meteor? | When meteoroid pieces enter Earth's atmosphere where thy burn up. |
What is a meteorite? | When a meteor strikes the Earth it is called a meteorite. |
What is a solstice? | When the sun is at its most northern or southern point. |
