Literary Terms #2

TermDefinition
antonyms Words that have opposite meanings.
synonyms Words that have similar meanings.
biography True story of a person's life written by another person.
dialogue Conversation between two or more characters.
fable A short, simple story that teaches a lesson. It usually includes animals that talk and act like people.
genre A category of literature. The main literary ones are fiction, nonfiction, poetry, and drama.
homonym Words spelled and pronounced alike but different in meaning.
almanac A book, published each year, containing facts and figures on a wide variety of topics.
root A word or word element to which prefixes and suffixes may be added to make other words.
simile A comparison of two unlike things using "like" or "as".
