What is a modifier? provides the means to report or indicate that a service or procedure that has been altered by some specific circumstances but not change in its definition or code
Function of a modifier inform 3rd party payers of circumstances that may affect the way payment is made
-22 Increased Proceddural service was greater than usual and required increased physician work above and beyond normal
-23 Unusual Anesthesia used by anesthesiologist to indicate a service for which general anesthesia was used when normally the anesthesia would have been local or regional
-24 Unrelated Evaluation and Management Service by the Same Physician during a Postoperative Period Used only with E/M codes and reports services that were performed during a postoperative period but were unrelated to recovery from the surgical procedure
-26 Professional Component used to designate a physician(professional) component of procedures that have a professional and technical component
-50 Bilateral Procedures If the same procedure is performed on a mirror-images organ of the body(such as right and left kidneys)
-51 Multiple Procedures during any given operative session, more than one procedure may be performed
