Math Vocabulary for measurement

Area The number of square units needed to cover a surface
Capacity The amount a container can hold when filled
Centimeter 100 cm = 1 meter
Cup 4 cups = 1 quart
Degree A unit for measuring angles
Elapsed Time amount of time that passes between the start and end of an activity
Foot customary unit used to measure length, width, height and distance
Gallon customary unit used to measure liquid capacity
Gram metric unit for measuring mass
Hour period of 60 minutes
Inch 12 inches = 1 foot
Kilogram m1 kilogram = 1000 grams
Liter metric unit for measuring capacity
Mass amount of matter in an object
Meter metric unit used to measure length
Milliliter 1,000 ml = 1 Liter
Minute period of 60 seconds
Ounce 16 ounces = 1 pound (lb)
Perimeter total distance around a figure
Pint 1 pint = 2 cups
Pound 1 pound = 16 ounces 2000 pounds = 1 ton
Quart 1 quart = 2 pints
Quarter hour period of 15 minutes
Temperature degree of hot or cold in something
Volume measure of the amount of space a solid figure occupies
Width distance of the short or shorter side of something
length distance of the long or longer side of something
Yard 3 feet= 1 yard; 1 yard = 36 inches
