a^(1/n) = | nth root of a. Ex: 64^(1/3)= 3rd root of 64= 4 |
a^(m/n) = | (nth root of a)^m Ex: 8^(2/3)= (8^(1/3))^2= 16 |
a^(-m/n) = | 1/a^(m/n) Ex: 16^(-3/4) = 1/16^(3/4) |
product rule for exponents | a^m * a^n = a^(m+n) |
power rule for exponents | (a^m)^n = a^(m*n) |
power rule for products | (ab)^n = a^(n)b^(n) |
negative exponent | a^-n = 1/a^n |
