TermDefinition
Endocrine Gland An organ that produces and releases its chemicals directly into the boodstream.
Negative feedback When a system is turned off by the condition it produces.
Pancreas A triangular organ that produces enzymes that flow into the small intestine.
Hormone A chemical that effects an organism's development.
Thyroid Gland The largest of the endocrine glands,it is found it the upper neck.
Ovaries An organ of the female productive system in which eggs and estrogen are produced.
Target Cell A cell that recognizes a hormone's chemical structure and binds chemically to it.
Parathyroid Gland Small endocrine glands in the neck that produce parathyroid hormone.
Testes Part of the male reproductive system in which sperm and testoserone are produced.
Hypothalmus A tiny part of the brain that links the endocrine system to the nervous system.
Adrenal Glands Endocrine glands that sit at the top of the kidneys. The right adrenal gland is triangular shaped, while the left adrenal gland is semilunar shaped. They are responsible for releasing hormones in response to stress
Thymus Produces homones that raise metabolic rate.
Pituatary Gland Puts out hormones that regulate homeostasis.
