Term Definition
Love Canal A 1970's New York housing development named Love Canal because they noticed that their community had a high rate of certain serious health problems.
Three Mile Island March 28, one of the reactors here nuclear facility outside Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, overheated when its cooling system failed. They closed this operation, but later closed it.
Bhopal A major ecological disaster occurred at a chemical plant in Bhopal, India.
Chernobyl An explosion happened here released radioactive waste that killed hundreds and caused many health problems.
Prince William Sound Oil tanker that spilled more than 11 million gallons of oil into the water.
Ecology The study of the relationships between living things and their environments,
Pesticide The chemicals used to kill insects on plants.
Earth Day A celebration started by Senator Gaylord Nelson, the first Earth Day was healed on April 22, 1970
Multilateral environmental agreement (MEA) Pacts among nations to protect the environment.
Kyoto Accords A framework for designing an environmental treaty.
Pollution The release of wastes into the environment.
