Linear Systems Vocab

QuestionAnswer
System of equations two or more equations with the same variable
Consistent An equation that has at least one solution
Inconsistent An equation that has no solutions
Dependent An equation that has infinite solutions
Independent An equation that has exactly one solution
Substitution method A method where, one equation is solved for one variable in terms of the other. Then this expression is substituted for the variable in the other equation
Elimination method Using this method, you eliminate one of the variables by adding or subtracting
System of inequalities A system of inequalities is a set of two or more inequalities with the same variables, graphed in the same coordinate plane.
Constraints inequalities
Feasible region Region inside where the lines intersect on a graph
Bounded graph of a system of constraints is a polygonal region
Vertices he maximum or minimum value of a related function
Unbounded system of inequalities forms a region that is open
Ordered triple solution of a system of equations in three variables, x, y and z
Octants When the three coordinate planes intersect at right angles and divide space into eight region
