| groundwater | Water found underneath the earth’s surface, contained in aquifers and in underground lakes and rivers. |
| permeable | An earth material or other substance that allows the flow of water or other liquids. For a rock to be permeable it must contain pores that are connected to provide a path for the liquid to flow. |
