Tabs | sit across the ribbon, represents core tasks you do in a program |
Group | sets of related commands in the tabs; remain on display and are readily available, examples: font, paragraph, styles, etc. (within each tab-broken into subsections) |
Ctrl key | used with other keys to perform shortcuts such as ctrl + b for bold |
Shift | capitalizing letters and creates symbols |
F8 key | highlights or extends a selection (used with the FN key) |
Crtl + left arrow key | sends the cursor to the previous word on the line |
Status bar | displays information about the current file, such as page numbers and word count |
Task bar | shows the start button and all open applications |
Quick access toolbar | puts commands where they are always visible and near at hand |
File | leads to program settings that control preferences for spelling, saving, and closing documents |
Default | preset specifications in an office program that controls line length, tabs, margins, spacing; what the computer assumes you will usually select |
Word wrap | permits information to be keyed without having to press enter at the end of each line; automatically advances to the next line when entering text |
Mini tool bar | appears when you select text and enables you to format the text at the point of use in the document instead of the ribbon |
