BIG BANG AND STAR TERMS

Big Bang Theory this theory of the origin of the universe state the universe began 14.7 billion years ago when a massive, hot,dense ball of material exploded.
What caused the the bodies of dust and gas to become stars? nuclear reactions of hydrogen and helium
What was the first element formed that all other elements are formed from? hydrogen
What is the expanding universe theory? most galaxies and stars appear to be moving away from our galaxy
What evidence supports the Big Bang Theory? 1. Expanding universe 2. high Percentage of helium in the universe 3.homogenous distribution of matter in the universe 4. the "afterglow"
What is the red shift? a star that is moving away from the earth because its wavelength is longer emitting a red light
What is blue shift? a star that is moving toward the earth because its wavelength is shorter emitting a blue light
What does the color of a star indicate? Its temperature- blue = hot red, white = less hot
What is an orbital plane? the path that the earth takes as it travels around the sun
What does heliocentric universe mean? the sun is the center of the universe
What does geocentric universe mean? the earth is the center of the universe. This was an early theory and has been replaced with the heliocentric.
