| corroborate | provide facts to support a claim. |
| deference | show respect to an elder or someone of higher importance. |

| imperceptible | barely noticable; |
| iniquity | wickedness; sin. |
| subservient | acting like a servant. |
| allegory | a work having two levels of meaning: one literal, and one symbolic. |
| tragedy | recounts the downfall of a main character. |
| comedy | happy; lighter; usually has a happy ending. |
| plot | sequence of events; |
| conflict | struggle between opposing forces. |
| protagonist | the main character. |
| antagonist | character opposing the main character. |
| foil | a minor character who provides a stark contrast to a main character. |
| cast of characters | list of character names in a play. |
| dialogue | conversation between two characters. |
| monologue | a long speech said by one character to an audience or another character. |
| soliloquy | a long speech said by one character to himself or herself. It is reflective. |
| aside | a short speech given to the audience which is not heard by those on stage. |
| stage directions | instructions for the actors, director, and stage hands about the play. |
