Atmosphere
Question | Answer |
---|---|
Atmosphere | a mixture of gases that surrounds a planet or moon |
Air | mixture of gases that make up the earth's atmosphere |
Troposphere | the lower layer of the atmosphere extending to about 15 kilometres above the earth's surface. All weather processes are found in this region |
Stratosphere | region of the atmosphere about 15 to 50 kilometres above the earth's surface |
Ozone layer | a region in the stratosphere where there is ozone |
Mesosphere | the layer of the atmosphere between the stratosphere and the thermosphere and in which temperature decreases as altitude increases |
Ionosphere or Thermosphere | it is the layer of the atmosphere located between the mesosphere and the exosphere |
Ultraviolet (uv) radiation | electromagnetic radiation harmful for living things |
Biosphere | the collective name for living organisms on the planet |
Carbon dioxide (CO2) | a heavy, colorless gas that is the fourth most abundant constituent of the air, comprising 0.033% Of the total |
Greenhouse effect | a term used to describe the role of atmospheric gases, in keeping the earth's surface warmer than it would be otherwise |
Absolute humidity | mass of water vapor per unit volume of space. It is usually expressed in grams per cubic meter. |
Climate | the average weather conditions of a place or region throughout the seasons |
Weather | the state of the atmosphere at a specific time |
Wind | air that moves |
Cloud | collection of minute water droplets and/or ice crystals, in the air. It forms in the atmosphere by condensation of water vapor |
Hydrosphere | the water portion of the earth's surface |
Water cycle | the transport of water in all its states between the earth, the atmosphere, and the seas |
Condensation | the process by which water vapor changes its state from a gas to a liquid |
Evapotranspiration | the total amount of water that is transferred from the earth's surface to the atmosphere. It is made up of the evaporation of water plus the transpiration from plants |
barometer | Measures air pressure |
thermometer | Measures temperature |
anemometer | Measures wind speed |
hygrometer | Measures relative humidity |
device | a piece of mechanical or electronic equipment |
