Atmosphere

Atmosphere a mixture of gases that surrounds a planet or moon
Air mixture of gases that make up the earth's atmosphere
Troposphere the lower layer of the atmosphere extending to about 15 kilometres above the earth's surface. All weather processes are found in this region
Stratosphere region of the atmosphere about 15 to 50 kilometres above the earth's surface
Ozone layer a region in the stratosphere where there is ozone
Mesosphere the layer of the atmosphere between the stratosphere and the thermosphere and in which temperature decreases as altitude increases
Ionosphere or Thermosphere it is the layer of the atmosphere located between the mesosphere and the exosphere
Ultraviolet (uv) radiation electromagnetic radiation harmful for living things
Biosphere the collective name for living organisms on the planet
Carbon dioxide (CO2) a heavy, colorless gas that is the fourth most abundant constituent of the air, comprising 0.033% Of the total
Greenhouse effect a term used to describe the role of atmospheric gases, in keeping the earth's surface warmer than it would be otherwise
Absolute humidity mass of water vapor per unit volume of space. It is usually expressed in grams per cubic meter.
Climate the average weather conditions of a place or region throughout the seasons
Weather the state of the atmosphere at a specific time
Wind air that moves
Cloud collection of minute water droplets and/or ice crystals, in the air. It forms in the atmosphere by condensation of water vapor
Hydrosphere the water portion of the earth's surface
Water cycle the transport of water in all its states between the earth, the atmosphere, and the seas
Condensation the process by which water vapor changes its state from a gas to a liquid
Evapotranspiration the total amount of water that is transferred from the earth's surface to the atmosphere. It is made up of the evaporation of water plus the transpiration from plants

anemometer Measures wind speed
hygrometer Measures relative humidity
