Argumentative Writing Terms

QuestionAnswer
Claim The author's stated position on an argument.
Counter Claim The author's acknolwedgment of the opposing position's claim.
Textual Evidence Evidence taken from the text to support a writer's answer or statement.
Citation A quoted or paraphrased information taken from another source to support the writer's statements and/or reasoning- these are always cited (giving the original author credit for his or her ideas)
Response to Counter Claim The writer's response to the opposing position. Made to refuse (weaken) the opposing argument.

Inference To make a prediction made during reading based on prior knowledge and gathered information by the reader.
