when do i use imperfect? | to describe an ongoing past action without reference to the beginning or end,to express habitual past actions, to describe mental, physical, and emiotional states or conditions (feelings and background info), to tell time/weather/season, setting the stage |
when do i use preterite? | events that have concluded, narration or series of events, express actions or states viewed by the speaker as completed, to express the beginning or the end of a past action, instantaneous reactions or events |
