Scale Factor

The sides of square are doubled. What effect does this have on the area? It quadruples.
A triangle has an area of 36 square centimeters. If the dimensions of the triangle are tripled, what will the new area be? It will be 9 times larger - 9 x 36 = 324 square centimeters.
The area of a new figure is 49 times larger than the original figure. By what factor were the original dimensions multiplied? The square root of 49, so the dimensions were multiplied by 7.
If the dimensions of a figure area multipled by 5, what effect does this have on the perimeter? It will be five times larger.
If the dimensions of a figure are multiplied by five, what effect does this have on the volume? It will be 5^3 or 125 times larger.
If the dimensions of a figure area multipled by five, what effect will this have on the area? It will be 5^2 or 25 times larger.
If the dimenions of a rectangle are multiplied by 8, what effect will this have on the surface area? It will be 8^2 or 64 times larger.
When the dimensions of a rectangle are multiplied by 8, wht effect will this have on the perimeter? It will be 8 times larger.
If you multiply the dimensions of a rectangle by 8, what effect will this have on the volume? It will be 8^3 or 512 times larger.
If the dimensions of a figure are reduced to half their original size, what effect will this have on the perimeter? It will be half the original.
If the dimensions of a figure are reduced by half, what effect will this have on the volume? It will be 1/8 the original.
If the dimensions of a figure are reduced by half, what effect will this have on the area? It will be 1/4 the original.
